My Leadership Values

This my first and prime leadership value because it is foundational.  Integrity is the "ticket to enter" leadership.  I define integrity as ethically behaving in a way that is "beyond reproach."

Character is the pattern and sum of one's intentions, words, behaviors, and decisions.  It is building trust through actions, not just words.

Conflict is inevitable in all relationships, including work relationships.  Conflicts can often be healthy and lead to personal growth, innovation and the best solution.  Confront conflict in a healthy and emotionally mature way.

We exist for our customers; without them we would close shop.  Generally speaking, customers come first, then employees, then shareholders.  

Communication is the grease in the wheels of our operation.

Select the right dimension of communication:  mode, tone, frequency, context, meaningful content, specificity.  We will seek first to listen and understand the other person’s perspective.  It’s always better to over communicate, rather than under communicate.  Never assume.

Expose your mistakes so that you can learn from it. When you make a mistake; own it!  Be biased toward admitting vs deflecting fault. 

Measure yourself and others against goals set and metric committed to.  Challenge yourself and others appropriately and directly.

We’re not perfect.  We will view criticism positively, no matter how its delivered to us, as vital information to improve ourselves.  Don't waste a failure; learn from it.  If you're going to fail; fail fast and fail cheap. 

 Ask "Why?" 5 times.  Avoid surface level problem solving.  

We all have different strengths and weaknesses.  We often fall into the trap of judging others by our own strengths.   

We share information freely, teaching others, and collaborating with others within and outside our team.  We’re all valuable to the team, even though we might have different roles.  Relationships with other teams is important.
